IRISH LAND BILL.
PROVISIONS OF THE MEASURE
London, April 14. In the House of Commons, Mr Gerald Balfour, Under-Secretary for Ireland, introduced the Irish Laud Law Reform Bill, which gives tenants facilities for the purchase of their holdings; allows them two years in which to redeem arrears of rent, leaving the landlord free to recover the remainder through the Court; fixes the' specific value of tenants' interests; extends the term for repayment from 49 to 70 years; allows evicted tenants to arrange with their landlords for the purchase of farms, the
Courts to decide the value of improvements with a right of appeal.
Mr Morley - said that unless the session was greatly prolonged, fivesixths of the Bills would be thrown overboard.
Mr Dillon said the measure would, be a grievous disappointment to the people, The Irish Land Law Reform Bill further provides for permanent automatic revision every five years in the case of thirty year leases.
The " Standard " says, in the event of it being found impossible to carry the Bill in its entirety, the fair rent clauses only will be pushed through.
