Mb Hyam Benjamin, a stockbroker, of Pembroke Gardens, Kensington, was charged ab Marlborough-etreeb, under the Bankruptcy Acts, with obtaining credib for £81 without disclosing tbe fact that be was an undischarged bankrupt, and was romanded on bail. A gentleman stepped into the witness-box and offered to become surety, Mr Hannay—What is your name, sir? The Gentleman—Barnato. Mr- Hannay—Where ,do you live? Mr Barnato—Spencer House, Sb. James's. Mr George Bell (solicitor for Mr Beuiamin)—l must go through the formality of asking you if you are worth £400 after the payment of your just and lawful debts. Mr Barnato smilingly replied in the affirmative. Mr Hannay—Wbab rens do you pay? Mr Barnato—£2,ooo a year, and I have freehold properby in the neighbourbourhood of Park Lane. Wr Hantiay—■> What are you! Mr Barnato—A diamond merchant and director bo several companies. Mr Hannay—You will be accepted as bail, sir. Mr Barnato was about to leave the Court when Mr Hannay was informed that he was Mr Bnrnato of South Africa. On hearing this Mr Hannay remarked thab he was not aware till thab moment of thab tact.
