Sir E, C. N. Braddon, Premier, has written to the Agent General with a view to ascertaining how the colonies gonerally, and Tasmania especially, are situated with regard to the power of fixing differential dutieß, the Colonial Office having laid down thab no differential duties can be esbablished withoub the Bill making them being reserved for the Royal assent-." Sir E. C. N. Braddon points out that from inquiries made when he was Agent-General for Tasmania he gathered that the colonies have power aa between themselves to establish differential duties. In Tasmania an Acb already exists permitting the imposition of differential duties by reciprocity treaties.
