Yesterday the schooner Awanui arrived with a cargo of coal from Ngunguru.
On Saturday night the schooner Medora arrived from Ohora and Awanui with the usual cargo of gum and sundries.
The barque Mary Hasbrouck lefb Wellington on Saturday for this port. She discharges a parb cargo of American merchandise here and then loads with gum for New York, under the auspices of Messrs Arnold, Cheney and Co.
Captain W. Scotland, who remainedbehind in London on the lasb trip of the Aotea to the colony, has been re-appointed to that vessel, and -Captain McDougall is expected to go back to his old post on She Mabatua.
At 8.40 yesterday morning the s.a. Mana pouri arrived from Southern ports. Of the passage, Mr Nancarrow, the purser, reports thab the steamer lefb Porb Chalmers on the 13th, called as usual ab Lyfctolton, Wellington and Napier, and leaviug Gisborna ab 11 a.sa. on Saturday, made fast to Queen-street Wharf aa above. Smooth seaa and light variable winda were mot with along the coast.
The brigantine Zeno, which arrived at Melbourne on the Bbh instant from Kaipara, encountered a terrific N.E. gale, with mountainous sea, during the passage. Heavy volumes of water swept over the vessel. A boat and water tank were smashed up, and a portion of the bulwarks was washed away. A seaman was swept againsb the deckhouw, and had his ribs broken.
The Union Company's steamer Tarawera made fast to Quebn-streeb wharf ati 7.30 his morning. The purser, Mr G. Sadler, to whom we are indebted for files, etc., reporbß that the Tarawera left the Sydney wharf at 6.50 p.m. on the 14tb, and cleared the Heads at -7.30 p.m. ; had the Three Kings abeam ab 10.40 a.m., and rounded the North Cape ab 3 p-m. yesterday, the 18th, arriving as above stated. Experienced variable winds and fine weather till abeam of North Cape, thence strong head winds and sea to arrival.
