MRS TOWSEY'S FUNERAL.

Tins afternoon at two o'clock, a mortuary service was held at St. Matthew's Church in connection with the death of Mrs Arthur Toweey, wife of the much-respected orfjanisb of St. Matfhew'e, and conductor of tho Orchestral Union and Liedertafel. The church was crowded with members of the congregation and friends of the doboaeed ludy and of Mr Towsoy. The communion table wns draped in black, while tho chancel was covered with beautiful' wreaths. As the coffin was borne into tho church, headed by tho Roy. L, Fitzgerald (incumbent), Rev. W. M, Dußiou (of St. Thomas') and juvenile choir, the voluntary. "Blest are. tho departed" was piayed on tho onjan. Hymn 399, " When our heads aro bowed with woe, !I was then Bung. Tho funeral service was road by the incumbent. Ab tho close, hymn 401, "Now the Labourer's Task is O'er," was enng, and aa tho coffin wa3 taken from the church, the Dead March in "Saul" was played. Mr ,R. Leslie Hunt, of Sb. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell, presided at tho organ in his usual ekilful manner. The service was of a deeply impressive and touching character. Among the many present in church and who followed deceased's remains to Purewa were the Choral Society (represented by Mr H. Brett (Chairman), Professor Carl Schmitt, Mr H. J. Edmiston, (Secretary), and Mr George Harker (Treasurer), and Dr. Cox), Auckland Orchestral Union (represented by the Committee, Messrs Reynolds, H. F. Windsor, Bell, .J, MacKe.naie and F. L. Prime), Auckland Liedertafel (represented by committee, Messrs Parish, Waldron, Roberta and Grindrod), and Devonporb Musical Society (represented by Messrs Geo. M. Reid (secretary), C. W. Cave, F. E. Mason and McKellar. Among many others present well-known in musical circles were Messrs V. E. llico (Secretary Diocesan Choral Association), Eady and Philpotb. There was a very large number of mourners in carriages and on foot.
