FATAL FIRE NEAR SYDNEY.

TWO CHILDREN BURNT TO DEATH.

A fire occurred shortly after 9.20 o'clock at night in a weatherboard cottage at Crook-street, Rosedale, near Asbfield, New South Wales, which resulted in two little girls being burnt to death. The cottage wna occupied and owned by John Frederick Hoare. Aboub nine o'clock he and his wife left tbo house to pay a visit to some neighbours. Before they lefb tbey pub their little girl Annie, who was five years old, and tha baby, eighteen months old, to bed, and a boy, six years of age, was lefb in charge of them. The boy wenb to sleep, leaving a candle by the bedside. The other children were also asleep, and a puff of wind blow the bed curtains into the candle flame. In a f6w moments tho whole room was in a blaze. The boy was awakened by the roaring of the . flames, and jusb escaped with his • . lifo into the street. He screamed loudly for help, and the neighbours soon arrived, and tried to stay the progress ot bhe fire. All efforts were, however, unavailing, for the small cottage was completely enveloped in flames in a few minutes, and bho unfortunate children were beyond help. No. 4 branch M.F.B. arrived promptly, bub the building, with its contents, was destroyed. The charred and blackened bodies of the infant children were recovered from bho debris by Consbable Butler, of the Rosedale police ttatibn, and broughb in to the South Syd* asy Morgue.'
