POLICE COURT.

THIS DAY.

(Before H. W. jSorthcroft, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness. —Two first offenders were dealt with in tho usual way.

Alleged Breaking and Entering.—A young man named Edward Mcintosh, alias McEwen, appeared to answer a charge of having broken and entered the dwellinghouse of Albert Duder, Parnell, on the 2nd January, and stolen therefrom two goinl bracelets, two silver bracelets, one gt/.'id chain, and one pair of gold earrings, of 'ohe total value of £12.—The accused way; remanded for eight days, as only a portion of tho property alleged to have been 'stolen had been recovered. Alleged Assault.—Jane Grey, an old woman, who was recently sentenced to three months' imprisonmen. for baying no lawful visible means of support, was charged with having assaulted George Thomaa Russell, a police constable, on the •19th inst., by striking him on the arm with a knife and kicking him on th n leg. The offence is alleged to have been, committed whilst the Constable was arresting the accused on the other charge on which she had been sentenced.—Sergeant Gamble said the gaoler had refused to allow the accused to leave the gaol without his receiving an order from the Magistrate, so thab he would have to ask for an adjournment.—The case was adjourned till Saturday. Setting Fibe to a Plantation.—Noel Wallace, aged ten years, pleaded guilty to a charge of having wilfully set fire to a plantation, the property of John Campbell, ab Point Erin, Shelly Beach, on the 16th inst. —Sergeant Gamble stated that the accused bad lie a fire on the beach to cook pipis, and that the fire spread to some dry bush close by and then to Mr Campbell's property, doing damage to tlae extent of £30 or £.o.—Constable Carlyoh said the accused had attempted to put it oub, but failed.—His Worship adjourned the case for the reporb of the Probation Officer. • '
