"LA CIGALE" TO-NIGHT.

RB-APPEARANCE OF MISS NELLIE STEWART,,

A TAiRtY large audience assembled at tlie Opera House lasb night, when " The Vicar of Bray " was produced for the last time. "La Cigale, which will be presenbed in Auckland for the firsb time to-night,'is by the.eft. p<?ser>■ .?Vt.be PPpuiar.^-Maßq'otte.'' and was probably bhe most successful opera in the company's repertoire during their lajeJ^elbourne season.. grasshopper (Marwn 1 gdes to Bfuge. to become Lo, Gloria, an opera singer courted by the nobility, sought hy the select of bhe seventeenth century Netherlands, and loved by ibs cavaliers. At her farm, the old home, she lefb tbe ant, her cousin Charlotte. Among many false lovers, Marton had two true one., her cousin Vincent and the Chevalier Franz De Bernheim. Hor preference was' for the Chevalier, who, however, had a mistress, the Duchess of Fazensburg, the latter having in turn a husband unduly partial to opera singers and dancers. The Chevalier had originally feigned love with Marton to cover his intrigue with the Duchess, but ends by falling in love with her. Marton, apprised of the Chevalier's duplicity, renounces him ab the Duchess's ball, and falls exhaused, giving way to a trance sleep, in which she sees a vision of herself back at the old home, where the snow is falling. Reviving after the swoon, she is made happy ever after by tho Duchess's assurance of the Chevalier's fidelity. Miss Nellio Stewart's takes bhe part of tbe lively, sprightly Marton, and has several taking songs, including the •• One Day, Margot" song, which has invariablyearned a double encore. The full cast is published in our advertisement column. The scenery and stage appointments for "La Cigale" will ! i as complete and beautifully finished as those for the operas already produced during the season. The opera will, no doubt, attract a large audience.
