A SETTLEMENT CERTAIN,

Sydney, January 9. The Premier has received- a- letter from the Manager of the Hetton colliery, and another from the Secretary of the Newcastle miners, in response'to a communication he addressed to thenlast week. The Manager has 'promised to call a special meeting of the directors of the Company, and the Secretary has intimated that the Premier's suggestion for the statu quo for two months meets with the approval of the miners. The Premier is sanguine that the conference which is to take place to-day will lead to a settlement of this points in dispute.
