FINAL RESULTS.

Wellington, Monday. The last game of the tournament was played to-day between Edwards and Barnes. The former played the queen's pawn opening. The game was fairly even up to the 22nd move, when Barnes obtained a slight advantage. Shortly afterwards, however, Edwards sacrificed a pawn thereby obtaining a very strong attack. Ultimately, owing to weak play on Barnes' part Edwards secured his queen for a rook! and Barnes resigned on the 32nd move. The score is as follow :— Won. Lost. Mackay ... .... ... 8 ... 3 Cocks ... lh ••• 3£ Edwards ... 7 ... 4 Lelievre .- 7 ... 4 Hookham 6J ... 4J Gifford ... ... ... 6i .... 4^ Barnes .*. ... ... 6 ... 5 Barraud ... ... ... 4 ... 6 Pleasants .... 4 ... 6 Hatherly ... ... ... 3f ... 7£ Wood 2 ... 9 Pearee 2 ... 9 Edwards and Lelievre each won seven games, but the former's points are 7*766 against the latter's 7*667, and therefore Edwards takes the third prize. The brilliancy prize of £2 2s has yeb to be awarded. The other special prize of a like atriounb goes to cither Hookham, Barnes, or Pleasanbs.
The Sonneborne points were as follows : Mackay, 8-710; Cocks, 8306; Edwards,, 7-766 ; Lelievra, 7-667 ; Hookham. 7172; Gifford, 7128; Barnes, 6*468 ; Barrand, 4-730 ; Pleasants, 4-675; Habherly, 2320 ; Pearce, 1-573; Wood, 1-036.
