Wellington, Monday. The last game of the tournament was played to-day between Edwards and Barnes. The former played the queen's pawn opening. The game was fairly even up to the 22nd move, when Barnes obtained a slight advantage. Shortly afterwards, however, Edwards sacrificed a pawn thereby obtaining a very strong attack. Ultimately, owing to weak play on Barnes' part Edwards secured his queen for a rook! and Barnes resigned on the 32nd move. The score is as follow :— Won. Lost. The brilliancy prize of £2 2s has yeb to be awarded. The other special prize of a like atriounb goes to cither Hookham, Barnes, or Pleasanbs.
