THE CABLE GUARANTEE.
ENGLISH OPINION.
London, January 7. ..< The action of Victoria in wishing'to with-* draw from the cable guarantee causes some* anxiety in commercial circles and ah increase in the tariff is inevitable if the agreement in broken. Inquiries as to the probable obligation of the colonies this year show; that not mor»than £7,000 will be required, therefore the action of tha Victorian Government is considered to be unjustified. Should the cable tariff be increased ib is likely toatTeco the wiring ofmarket quotations for Australian produce and mining ventures.
