SHARE FISHING IN SYDNEY HARBOUR.
A correspondent of the Sydney "Telegraph" writes: "Few persons in Sydney are aware of the excellenb work done in bhis parbicular branch of sport by Mr Proctor, of the Submarino Miners, stationed ab Chowder Bay. For some years Mr Proctor has devoted himself to the destruction of these ravenous monsters, and when ib was stated bhab he killed no leas than 59 sharkß last season, not one under 10ft iv length, some idea will be gained of the constant and systematic war he has carried on. Visitors down to Chowder Bay may notice a line of red buoys laid, each of which is kepb baited for " John Shark " when he sails in the Heads, and starts up harbour to look for a delicate morsel in the shape of some unwary bather or pet dog, and it need hardly be said thab it is a big tax on Mr Pioctor finding hooks, lines, moorings, and baib, for which b_ does not receive one penny compensation. In addition to this, he has expended £17 on a two-ended boab, built bo his own design, and which, by bhe way, he gob stove in by a monster at the end of last season, a little change in his programme which cost him nearly £3 to sot righb again. All bhe hooks, lances, ebc, are made to his own especial designs, and a visib to.his museum will well repay the trip down. Recently Mr Proctor landed bwo large 'blue poinbers,' bhe mosb daring and eavage of bhese unwelcome visibors, and frequency his .better-half goes off in the boab.with him bo assisb in giving bhem bheir quietus It is sincerely to be hoped thab somo reward will be offered for sharks over a certain size, say 5a a head 7 feab bo 10 feeb, and 108 over bhab, for should Mr Procbor really knock off, aa he threatens, there is serious danger of heavy loss of life among the boating fellows so constantly capsizing."
