The number of mon employed on co- ■°' ferative works for the laeb month was :-r- ---> Aurvey Department, 4 artisans and 1,200 1 &nourerß ; Public Works Department, 77 artisans, (j7l labourers ; grand.total, 1,952. / In. the Auckland district, the Depart'taent of Labour assisted 31 married and 4 single labourers, 3 married guendiggers, -5 married and - 2 single-pain tors'; total assr.stod, 45. These had 173 persons depending on them. Forty-four gaveslack-r-etfs of. brada aa the reason for inability to ob/iaia work, while one gave as the reason sic krioss. Of those; assisted forty were from the North Island, 2 from the South, ao d one each from Victoria, Now South VV nlles and Queensland. . ' ■
' T'hera was one conviction under the £Hiop» and Shop Assistants' Act obtained at Uhristchurch, and one under the "Factories Act was obtained,at Timaru. Two •cases in Auckland under the Factories Ach were withdrawn, the defendant paying costs.
