SALE OF THE LONDONDERRY.
PURCHASED FOR A QUARTER OF A
MILLION.
The sale of the Londonderry mine, aboub which rumours have been persisbenb for days, has at length been accomplished (says bhe Sydney "Telegraph"). Earl Tingall has purchased tha mine, for a sum a .little under £250,000 and interest, but the exact Bum has not been made known. It is understood, however, to be over £200,000 and onesixth interest. His lordship has purchased on behalf of a syndicate, in which Mr W. R. Casey, of Queensland, and Lord Sudely are believed to be interested. Sonae delay Was occasioned by the absence of Mr Gardener, one of the prospectors of the mine, but he reburned lasb nighb. Mr Chas. Mann bhis morning secured his lasb signature to the contract The sale has given general satisfaction, as the mine was riot having justice done to it under the control of prospectors, who were really afraid to open up the property while surrounded by hundreds of dry blowers who were working to within a few feeb of bhe golden hole.
Lord Tingall starts for England in a few days, taking £200.000 or £3Q0,000 worth of specimens with him, which Will show to the British public how gold occurs in the richest mine in the world. Until the mine is floated, and bhe manager for bhe company appointed, the mine will be bottomed down and surface workings fenced in. Sufficient men to hold the ground will be employed, and a vertical shaft will be sunk in obber parts of the block. _/It is probable that the existing dispute between the prospectors will now be fixed up. Big as is bhe price paid for bhe property, ib is small as compared with bhe greab wealth in sight in the workings, which are down to the 50ft level. The gold in sight is estimated at several tons.
