Tadpiri, this afternoon,
About a thousand spectators assembled at Taupiri to-day. The railway arrangements wero excellent. The excursion train arrived promptly to time, and the Europeans formed into a compact body on the platform, marched on to the burial place, where they were received by the natives amid volleys of guns and shouts of welcome. Speeches of condolence on behalf of the Europeans were delivered by Mr J. Mackay, Rev. Gitfcos, and Messrs J. S. Graham, nnd W A. Graham. Major Te Wheoro, in response, expressed great satisfaction ab the large concourse. Hone Taipua then sang a song of welcome. The new King, Mahuba, spoke as follows :—" I greet you all, leb prosperity remain with all Europeans; also let us insist on peace and quietness. You have expressed a sentiment of love which cannot go wrong. Let prosperity remain with all, both Europeans and natives." Refreshments were served to the visitors, after which a haka was danced. The King held a levee during this afternoon.
