The opposition to the scheme becomes more pronounced with the laDse of time, and there iB a growing conviction "thab in the negotiations the Colonial Bank has gob a decided advantage. Ib is, I may add, generally considered as settled that bhe Hon. George McLean will be President of the amalgamated bank. The Disqualification Acb would nob apply bo him, for bhough the appointment rests wibh the Governmenb, bho salary, if any, would be paid by bhe Bank.
