THE CUTTER PAKU.
With regard to the oar found yesterday near the Manukau Heads with " Paku " on, it appears that some little time ago a pair of marked oara were lost from tho cutter,'and that they were replaced by unmarked ones. Tho hatches found aro also stated to be far too small for tho?e of the Paku. Yesterday Mr Lang,a sett lerat Muddy Creek, returned to the Heads after searching the coastline as far as the Waikato River without finding any wreckage of the missing cutter. The master of the scow Rover, now in port.gives the names of the crow of the Paku aa John Caven (master), Thomas Keefe (A.8.), and Darnel Foley (known as Carroll), A.B. An extra hand waa taken on at tho Huia last trip who worked his way down to Waitara when ho loft the boat, and it was no doubt through this that the rumour of Foley leaving had its origin. Dan Foley, whoae age is 56, was employed as cook, and his family lives in Auckland. Thos. Keefe, who ia aboub 18 years old, belongs to Tauranga, where his parents now reside. Caven's brother has gone to the beach and will search from the Heads to Raglan, and no doubt come reliable news will shortly be sent up.
