MAJESTIC AND PARIS CROSS THE

ATLANTIC ABREAST.

The White Star Liner Majestic, from New York, arrived at) Queenstown at 3.4 a.m. on May 30th, after a most exciting race with the American Liner Paris, which left New York half-an-hour before on Wednesday, May 23. On the following day the vessels were abreast. Neither gained on tbe other until the Saturday, and all tho passengers kepb on deck watching tho exciting contest, betting freely on theresult, and cheering loudly whenever one or other of the great steamers appeared to be gaining a little. Ob the Saturday afternoon the rivals parted company, the Paria then steaming righb across the bows of the Majestic so comparatively close that Captain Parsoll felb it necessary to Blow down the engines of tho White Star crack. The Majestic's time was 6 days 4 hours 44 minutes, which, considering the weather, was a remarkably good passage The American liner Paris passed Scilly at 8 a.m. on May 30th, being thus beaten by bhe Majestic by several hours.
