POLICE COURT.—(THIS DAY.)

(Before H. W. Northcroft, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness,— Norah Williams, a middle? a^ed woman, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk in Queen-atreet, and waa fined 10s, or, in default, 48 hours' imprisonment. The accused had just served a sentence of three months. A young man, who stated he was 18 yearß of age, was discharged with a caution. Larceny—James Wilson, alias Francis Mullin, was charged with having, on the26th June, stolen one pair of boots, of the value of Is 6d of the goods of Alfred Sexton.— Sergeant Gamble, who appeared for the prosecution, stated that the thefb had been committed in a moso deliberate manner, and without any attempb ab concealmenbs. The accused had snatched up the boots from the window sill of Mr Sexton's shop in Karangahape Road, and had ran away with them in the presence of a large number of witnesses. On being arrested Wilson said that as he could not geb work he would aooner go bo gaol bhan starve. The Bench took a lenient view of the case and sentenced him to three months' imprisonment.

Allegex.* False Pretences.—Pabrick Sheehey was charged with obtaining by false pretence, on or aboub the 20th May at Omapere the sum of £5 from Henry Benjamin Moore with intenb to cheat and defraud him of the same. Mr Napier appeared for the accused, who pleaded nob guilty. Sergeanb Gamble, insbructed by tbe informant, asked to be allowed to withdraw the case. Mr Napier said thab aa bhe accused had always borne a good characbor and was a respectable citizen he would aak bhab bhe case be dismissed on the ground thab bhe person who had laid bhe information waa merely a servanb of the firm to whom bhe false pretence waa alleged bo have been made, and that be had no authority whatever to do eo.—The accused was discharged.
