Wellington, this day. The Typographical Conference interviewed i the Hon. Mr Ward to-day re tariff reform, and Mr Reeves re Masters and Apprentices Bill and the priuting of achool books. The Ministers requested that the matters should ba put in writing and they would receive the careful consideration of the Cabinet. The new arrangements in regard to the bug and pilot service of harbour provide for the following charges :—: rTowage inwards, 4d per ton register up to 1,200 tons, above 1,200 tons, 3d per ton, minimum, £8 ; outward towage, 2d por ton, minimum, £5 ; removals, Id per ton, minimum, £2 10s. Vessels broughb from the sea direct to wharf or taken from the wharf to sea are not to be charged for removal. The Gazette contains n«w regulations for the inspection of schools and Standard examinations. [ ' Applications are made to have sixty two rivers and creeks in Westland and Nelson proclaimed watercourses for the deposit of tailings. Dr. King comes back to the Mount View Aiylum. Dr. Mills goes to JPorirua and Dr. Hassell to Sunnyside. The Mayor takes exception to tbo statement in a Southern paper that the City Council is indolent and neglectful in regard to sanitary matters.- The Hospital returns show that in 1891 there were 118 cases of typhoid and 11 deaths; in 1892, 193 and 16 ; 1893, 96 and 7; and so far thia year, 71 and 3. So far h otn showing indolence, the Mayor claimed, whan laying these figures before the. Council, that they argued to the contrary.
