A NEW YACHT.

Mr A. Watson, the well-known contractor, who will be remembered in connection with tbe viaduct on the Manawatu railway, although nob ab present a regular builder of yachts, is jusb completing one which has all the essentials of a good boab. Her builder was brought up in the trade at one of tho largo yards on the Clyde, and afterwards was employed at the Portland man-o'-war docks. In the early days, Mr Watson constructed transports at Onehunga for the conveyance of troops along the Waikato River. These boats were builb on bhe diagonal plan, and bheir builder claims bhat bhey were bhe firsb constructed on bhab system, which has oi late years come into such universal favour throughoub the colony. ... To return to the presenb boat, its model perhaps resembles Mr T. Kilfoyle's wellknown craft, the Aorere, more than any other boat at presenb in bhe harbour. Her dimensions are: Length over-all, 49ft 6in; length on water line, 35fb ; beam, 9ft; draughb, Bft. Her masb measures from deck to hounds, 26ft, while bhe masb head is some Bfb above that; from the top of topmast to hounds, 15fb; lengbh of boom, 35fb. The yachb has been builb of specially seasoned kauri bhroughoub in three skins, all the knees being of pohutukowa. The hull is constructed throughout diagonally, and the deck is in two skins, one longitudinally and the other diagonally. A special feature about this part of the yacht is that between the beams all the fastening is done with brass screws, which is a great improvement on the usual copper rivetting. The yacht, one of the most prominenb characteristics of which is the care and trueness with which it has been put together, is ballasted wholly with lead, of which there will be about six tons on her keol. The construction was commenced before s Christmas, and1* therefore the boat has been made during the best possible period of tbe year, that of Summer. From official measurements, it appears that the new cjaf t will be of eight tons rating, and competent authorities who have viewed ber coincide in the opinion of the owner thab " nob only will she prove herself one of the mosb comfortable of our cruising fleet, bub that Bhe will take a lot of beating by any boab of her class in bbc harbour."
