HARBOUR BOARD.
Messrs M. Niccol, J. J. Holland, E. Alison, R. Farrell, C. Wright, J. McCabe. Wi J. Napier, A. E. T. Devore, C. Houghton, J. T. Julian, T. Henderson and J. Witheford attended bhe usual meebing of the Harbour Board yesterday. In bbc absence of the Chairman Mr Niccol presided. Notices to Mariners. —Some notices to mariners were received and ordered to be given the usual publicity. Dock Dues. —The dock master of the Esquimalb wrote asking to be furnished with bhe Auckland rules for docking ships. The Board decided bo furnish bhe information asked for.— Captain T. C. Tilly wrobe regarding bhe Board charging dues for docking the Mission vessel Soubhern CroBS. He stated thab he paid the amounb under protest, claiming bhat bbc vessel was entibled to be docked free of charge as she was a missionary vessel, and also flow tbe flag of the R.T.Y. Club.—The letber was received.— Mr Wibheford said bhese vessels were bbc pioneers not.only of Christianity bub also of commerce, and the actual commercial benefit was of value to this porb, and entibled bhem bo some consideration. Mr Witheford complained that a letter senb to him last meeting on bhe subject had not been senb up bub kopt downstairs until the end of bbc meeting. The official who received bhe letter was called, and explained that the messenger did "not ask thab bhe letter should be senb up to Mr Witheford. Transport.—The proprietors of a new London paper wrote applying for 4,000 reduced copies of the plan of Auckland Harbour with a view to issuing the same in the paper.—The letter was referred to the Finance Committee. The Monowai.—Further correspondence was read relative to the delay to the b.s. Monowai.—The letters were ordered to be coived. Time Ball.—Sir James Hector wrote forwarding a pamphlet with regard to timo balls. Man-of-War Steps.—A letter from the captain of H.M.s. Wallaroo pointing out certain requirements to this landing was referred to the Finance Committee. Wharfage.—Mr Craig's letter objecting to a certain charge for wharfage was referred to the Works and Tariff Commitbee. Valuation. — Tho Board decided bo accept the offer of Mr W. Gulliver to value their property for £25 guineas. Electric Light.—A letter on this subject from Messrs Seegneur, Langguth and Co., was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Conference. —It was agreed to confer with the Finance and Logal Commitbee nexb Tuesday upon the question of sewage deposit. Metal.—An offer of 150 tons ofiiroken metal at 4s per ton by Mr J. J. Craig was accepted. Wharfage on Fruit.—Mr G. Green wrote asking the Board to abolish the wharfage on fruit.—The letter was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. St. George's Bay Road.—A letter on this subjecb from bhe Parnell Borough Council was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. A Vacancy.—The resignation of the third clerk, Mr W. McLaughlan, was accepted. Committee Reports. —The Board adopbod the reports of the various committees, particulars of which have been previously published. The only alteration was tbat the lessee of the waiting-room on the North Shore ferry tees should take charge of the same, bub nob be responsible for the water supplied. Assistant Storekeeper. — The Board selected Master Preston for this position out Of the ten names submitted by the Commitbee. Master Russell came next on tbe lisb in the voting. Tenders. — The tender of tho Kauri Timber Company was accepted for the supply of timber, it being the lowest according to schedule. Three tenders for the supply of coal were referred to the Works and Tariff Committee, as was also the three tenderß for ship chandlery. Consideration of tbe tenders for printing was deferred.
