BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING.
At the monthly meeting of tbe Birkenhead Borough Council held on tbe 14th inefc., all being present, the Mayor, C. E. Button, Esq., presiding, reports were received from various Committees as to works in the district, some of which bad been completed, wbilstothers were progftssingsabisfactorily. After receiving suggestions from the Engineer, Mr Hammond, re Mr Rawlinson's contract for altering footpath agproaching the wharf, and filling in to the retaining wall, it was decided that the contractor be requested first to lower the footpath on the inner side, and that the Committee be empowered to delay the work if the weather rendered it necessary. Ab the Mayor will |>c >buent for a time Cr. Kay was ap. pointed to fill the vacancy on the Commi tee. Three months' leave'of absence was given to the Mayor, to enable him to attend to his Parliamentary duties, and also to Cr. Witbeford, on account of bis proposed visit to the Mother Country. The Town Clerk reported that Mr Staines' complaint re the closing of a road in the Allandale township was incorrect, and, moreover, thab none of the roads therein had been dedicated or were of the required width. The Town Clerk was requested to communicate with the police respecting tbe continued straying of horses and cattle on the public roads in the borough, and to ask property owners on the main road to have their live fenceß trimmed where projecting over the footpaths. Financially, the Treasurer reported as follows :—Cr. balance in May, £1112s 5d ; rates since received, £11 8s 3d; accounts paid, £19 16s 8d ; leaving present credit) balance. £3 4s. Sundry accounts, amounting to £23 ISs lOd, were authorised for payment as funds were available.
