THE LATE CONFERENCE OF SCHOOL INSPECTORS.

Wellington, Saturday. A meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held to-day, when consideration waß ; given to the recommendations made ab the recent confeience of school inspectors, | a number of amendments being Bug- ' gested. Among the resolutions passed were the following:-—" That arithmetic is a subject already taking up too much ot school time, and the Institute , would bo sorry to see the addition of mensuration of solids to the eyllabue; in the matter of geography, InstitttW 1 thinks that the suggested changes are hardly of sufficient importance to justify disturbing the existing syllabus." "That this Institute heartily apDroves of the suggestion to make less than 250 attendances a case for exemption." "That the protest of Dr. Anderson against taking percentages as eßbimate of efficiency of school, as.pro- c posed at the conference of inspectors, is heartily endorsed by this Institute." I&| the matter of the proposed withdrawal of teachers'certificates on the reports of inspectors: "Thab this Institute strongly, protests againefa a proposal to degrade teachers' certificates."
