The House of Lords has abandoned most of its amendments to tho Parish Councils Bill, bub has re-adopted bho amendment relative bo the acquisition of land, and has also adopted an amendment by Lord Salisbury to restriob the number of elective bru.boes by bhe parish charitable societies, ib is regarded a* cerbain thab bhe House oi Commons will oppose bho amendments and once moro return bhe measure to tho House of Lords. London, February 25. Tho Duke of Devonshire said the Lords would impair their strength by insisting on detailed amendments. Thoy should provide due safeguards for greab principles, bub ib was inexpedienb and imprud.nb bo risk loss of tho Bill. Lord Salisbury thought bhoy should leavo bhe defence to bo remedied at a fubure date.
