News has been received from Gambia, West Africa, bhat a dobachmenb of the Wesb Indian Regiment, accompanied by a foreo of bluejackets from H.M. ships R.aleigh, Widgeon and Magpio, under the command of Captain Gamble, of the Raleigh, attacked bhe chief Fodisollah, a noted slave dealer near Babhurst, bhe capital of bhe colony.

After capturing bwo etockudes and villages, the force while returning to the boats was attacked on all sides.

Lieuts. Hervey and Arnold, of the Raleigh, and Lieut. Meisber, of the Magpie, and ten men were killed.

Six officers, including Captain Gamblo, and 40 men were wounded.

The native porters deserted with the ammunition of the British force, thus adding to the disaster.

Fears are entertained for the safety of the gunboat Widgeon, as ib is believed that sho has been losb on bhe West Coasb of Africa.
