CIVIL WAR IN THE ISLANDS.

The island steamer Archer, which returned to Sydney on. Wednesday last after a lengthy cruise afnong the South Sea Islands, brings news of a civil war having taken place at Maaaki Island in December last. The fight lasted for several hours, and the King's supporters came off victorious without the loss of a single life. Of the rebel tribe eighb or nine men were killed and many wounded. Some 250 of the conquered took refuge in a trading schooner, which conveyed them to the neighbouring island, Apiang. Maaaka, the scone of the fight, is now under British protection and has been free from disturbances for many years. Those on board the Archer expect the instigators of the trouble will be apprehended and punished.
