ATHLETIC SPORTS.
THE AUCKLAND SCHOOLS
CARNIVAL,
There is one fact in connection with bhe gathering of the Auckland primary and secondary schools in bhe Domain to-morrow that stand. out most prominently. It is, we are tola, the biggest affair of its kind bhab has been held, nob only in bhe colony, but in Australasia. Not merely ia ib the largest gnbhering of amateurs belonging to the public schools, bub ib promises bo be actually bhe largest display of abhletic events by amateurs of all sorts and conditions which has beeu witnessed in the colonies. For weeks pa.t the Domain crickob ground has been nightly the scene of greab training on the part of our school boys for to-, morrow, and inside and oub of the playground youthful enthusiasts have been discussing the coming carnival as warmly as wo may imagine the boyß of Greece to have debated th 6 great Olympic games in which bhey had six races seb aparb for bhemselvoe. The inberesb has been immense, oven among bhe very small boys, and we hear ib whispered thab one libtlo chap of five has broken the record. Altogether, there is promise of plenty of amusement to-morrow, and unflagging amusemenb, for bhe programme makes provision for a race every bwo minutes, and the provisions in this respect must be carried oub, for bhere are no lees bhan 102 events bo be gone bhrough. Many of bhe3e will be particularly interesting, as in some of them there will be from 40 to 69 competitors. The firsb events begin at 10.30, and from thab time right up till pasb five o'clock, wibh brief intervals for refreshments, the carnival will continue fast and furious. Hunter's Band will bo in attendance during tho day, and in tho afternoon tea will be dispensed to those who desire ib. Everything has been done to render the meeting a perfect success. Tho Auckland Amateur Athletic Club have taken the whole arrangement under bhoir supervision, and from our pasb experience of the way bhey manage such tilings, we have no fears bhat those who visib the Domain to-morrow will be quite repaid for their pains. There aro a Berieß of events open to members of the Club, and the entries are already considerable. Tho opportunity of seeing Mr E. Reynolds, our New Zealand record-breaker, riding hia bicycle is alone enough to attract crowds to tho Cricket Ground, but-this is only one of bhe inducements held out in tho bulky programme which has been issued. Let us hope bhat the weather will be propitious. There are every signs thab it will be at present. A mistake appears in the programmes which have been printed. We are requested to stato that the half-mile event for primary schools will take place ab 1.6 p.m. instead of 1.15 p.m. The correct time-table of events appears in another part of this, issue. NORTH SHORE ATHLETIC SPORTS. The second carnival of the North Shore Amateur Athletic Club will be held on the Recreation Ground, Devonport, to-morrow afternoon. Tho programmo consists of foot-racing, jumping events, aud bicycle races, and each event promises to be well contested. MAKETU SPORTS HANDICAPS.
