WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.

The Wealeyan District Meeting continued ics eitting: yesterday afternoon in the Pibbscreet Wesleyan Schoolroom. Maoui Mis.'iioNS.-- Mr F. A. White brought up a report of a Committee appointed to consider Maori masters. The report was a verbal one, and dealt) chiefly with Mr GiLtos' remarks on tlia Maori Missions in the Waikato, end the difficulties surrounding them. He paid, so far as his own work was concorned, his difficulties were increased by the illness of his wife and family, with whom the climate did nob agree. Ho thought the work could be as well managed from Auckland, and that he should be removed here, leaving Wi Warena to itinerate, and also make other changes Irom Kaipara and e'sewiiere. Meantime he," Mr Gibbos, would go to Kaipara and Hokianga to pick up the work which bad tallen there. The (inancial part of the work had been going to the ba'.i. Mr Gittos raferred to the Christian spirit displayed by Wi Warena, Piripi and Hauraki Paul.—The Committee rr.eomroer.ded that Mr GiStoa be superintendent of the Auckland Mission work, to reside ia Auckland, his ealary to be £250, rent £50, and travelling expeusea £25.—This recommendation was agreed to, ib being arranged tl'mfc Mr Gittoß should change his reaidenca from Te Awamutu to Auckland. — Mr Prime brought up a list of grants to be niiide to Maori Missions. There was an increase of £20, chiefly to native nnnisters. ypecial attasiUon waa called to the large amount of money outstanding due to the native minister Hauraki Paul. The Maoris held over their gum, and it waa asked thafc he should be paid out of the Horns Mission Fund. Several ministers bore testimony to the good work done by Hauraki Paul. Mr Law moved, " That" Hauraki'a salary be paid in full out of the Home Mission. Fund, and that the amount collected from fcho circuit ba paid to the Home Mission. Fund. On the motion that the amount of be put down, and that the circuit pay it, Sir White moved aa an amendment, "That Kauraki'a stipend be paid by the Treasurer, the amount; received by the circuit to go lo the fuv-d." This was agreed vo. The amount sot down for the superintendent of Maori Missions, etc., waa £445 19f. This estimate waa carried without discussion. Home Missionaries. —On tho motion of Mr White it was resolved " That it be recommended that Home Missionaries be allowed to have seats and votes at the financial district meetings." Two mutiona affirming tho desirability of raising the salaries of Homo Missionaries to £100 a year, wero put and lost. Statistical Returns. —Mr Griffith submitted the following statistical returns :— Churches in Auckland district, 61; other preaching places, 128; ministers and probationers. 2o ; llnmt) Missionaries, 8 ; Bunday school teacher?, 537 ; local preachers, 105; class leader?, 64; Church members, '2,121 ; on trial, 114 ; communicant.., 464 ; catechumens, 199; deaths, 22; Sundayschools, G3 ; Sunday-school scholars, 4,756 • Attendance on public worship, 15,036. The increases in the European work were • —One church, 15 other preaching pi neon, three Home Missionaries, three local preachers, .'37 members, 6 class leaders, 8 on trial, 20 communicants, 136 scholars, 823 hearers. These returns are exclusive of tho Maori work. The report was* adopted. General Superintendent.— The Rev. Mr Bull moved :•-" That in the opinion of this District Meeting it is expedient to establish a system of general pupurin tendency in connection with tho Weslcyan Methodist Church of Australasia, providea that the adoption of the said system siutil as regards any annual conference be optional, and shall nob be adopted except by a two-thirds majority of votes of any such conference given in its representative session, which session shall have the sole power of appointment to the office."—The motion was lost. Thk District Chairman. —On the motion of Mr Bull ib was resolved, " That it being probable that the Rev. William Lee, Chairman of the Auckland district, will ba removed beyond the bounds of the district ah the end of the present ecclesiastical year, the meeting place on ijecord its appreciation of the valuable servicos rendered to the Church by Mr Lee while presiding over the affairs of the district."
