Wellington, bhia day. THE DROWNING FATALITY. Mrs O'Rorke, who was, wibh Miss Mclnroe, drowned in the Buller River, is said to have been a most estimable and public spirited woman. She interested herself actively in local affairs and was a probable candidate for the representation of the Hampden Ward in the County Council. SUPERVISION OF DAIRIES. At the meeting: of the hospital trustees yesterday morning the condition of the local dairies was strongly condemned as likely to prove mosb injurious to the public health. Government inspection is urged. SHORT WEIGHT BREAD. Seven convictions were obtained here yesterday againsb bakers of the city for selling light weight bread. Fines ranging from £3 downwards, with costs, were imposed. THE UNEMPLOYED. The Labour Bureau will pub six more meu on road work ab Evan's Bay on Thursday nexb, making a total of thirty who have been found employment on this work. THE BANKRUPTCY ROLL. Only three petitions in bankruptcy, were filed during the month ending bo-day, bhe same number as Ocbober lasb year. There have been 44 bankruptcies during fche ten months of the presenb year, and there were 46 for tho corresponding period of last year. HALF-HOLIDAY MOVEMENT. The Honorary Secrebary of the Shop Assistants'* Half-holiday Association advertises the names of the Wellington drapers, clothiers and mercers who have agreed to close their respective places of business at 1 o'clock on Wednesdays. The Picturesque Atlas Company sued no fewer than 35 peraons in the Resident Magistrate's Courb yeßterday for various amount, with a varying success. Tobacconists and hairdressers here, wibh one exception, are willing to observe Wednesday as a half holiday. " A Million of Money " continues to draw crowded houses. Prompt settlement of life assurance characterises bhe Governmenb Office. Yesterday the policies qj_ a well-known residenb were lodged and bbc amounb paid before 5 o'clock.
