The following petition, in support of bbc acbion of tbe Auckland University College Council in dismissing Professor Aldis, is being numerously signed in the city :— " To the Hon. the Minister of Education, Official Visitor to the University College, Auckland.—We, the undersigned citizens of Auckland, having given considerable attention to the various circumsbances leading up bo the. dismissal of the Professor of Mathematics of the Auckland University College, desire to express our entire concurrence with the action taken by the College Council. We are strongly of opinion that bhe welfare of the institution will suffer if any steps are taken l.hab will tend to weaken the authority of tho Council. We trust, therefore, that you will decline bo take any action to set aside the decieion already arrived at after mature deliberation by the governing body ol the college on this important matter."
