Drunkenness.—John Cozens was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour, for being an habitual drunkard. A tirsb offender was mulcted in the usual penalty. Mary Wakeham was lined 10s and 2s 6d cab hire, or 24 hours', and Jane Goldsmith 5s and 2s 6d cab hire or 24 hours' imprisonment for inbibing too freely. A Double Charge. — Anthony Joseph was charged with the larceny as a bailee of two watches of the value of 275, the property of Cyprian Hannan.—Accused was further charged with having, by false pretences ab Whangarei, obtained from Alex. Wilson one pair of trousers of the value of 22s 6d.—Accused, who was undefended, was remanded from last week. He pleaded guilty to taking the trousers, but denied Btealing the watches. The evidence of the prosecutors was to the effect that accused came in their shop and got the watches, which he said he would return in half an hour. Accused did nob come back. —The accused denied being in the shop on the 11th of October.—Sergeant Gamble said the accused had been brought back from New Plymouth on warrant.—The Bench sentenced the prisoner to six months' imprisonment on both charges, the contenees to ran concurrently.
