AUCKLAND YACHT CLUB.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.

Last evening the annual general meeting of the members of the Auckland Yacht) Club took place in the public room of the Harbour Board offices. The attendance was large, and Mr J. Wiseman presided. The annual report was read and adopted. It stated: —The Committee has much pleasure in congratulating the members on the progress of the Club and the increased interest in yachting at Auckland during the past year. A large number of new yachts has been added to the Club fleet, which now comprises 55 yachts. A display of the fleet was made in December last in honour of His Excellency the Governor, and witnessed by him on board of- the Commodore's yacht. The revival of yacht racing has been a feature of the past season, and the races at the local regattas were well contested. The club races were also interesting and resulted as follows:—1. (not exceeding 6rating), Mr F, VV. Mace's Awatoa, 1; Mr G. Warman's Mehavo, 2. 2. (not exceeding 3-rating), Mr J. Logan's Gloriana, 1; Mr Swale's Aline, 2. The annual picnic and acquatic sports were held at the Lake Beach and were well attended. The measurement rule of the Yacht Racing Association of Groat Britain has again been adopted .by the Club, and a former objection to it has been removed by an addition to the rule. The Committee much regrets the loss which yachting has sustained by the death ot Mr YVaymouth, senior, ex Commodore of the Club, and of Mr VV. H. Levin, VicePrcsideut of the New Zealand Yachting Association. The coming season promises to be the most interesting in the history of thti Club, from the face that the Championship races of the New Zealand Yachting Association will be held ab Auckland in January next. The statement of accounts shows a balance to the credit of the Club of £50.

The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place as follows :—Commodore, Mr J. Wiseman ; Vice-Commodore, Captain Gibba ; Rear-Commodore, Mr J. C. Webster ; Treasurer, Mr R. S. Reynolds ; Secretary, Mr VV. A. MaoCormick ; Assistant Secretary, Mr D. Carter; Committee, T. Henderson, H. Haines, F. VV. Mace, O. B. Waymouth, H. Buchanan, J. L. R. liloomtield, Thomas Kilfoyle, H. F. Windsor, G. S. kissling, G. Goldie; Measurers, Messrs Cozens and Goldie; Auditors, Messrs Cozene, and C. Lawford. Fifteen new members were elected, and ib was decided to adhere to last year's subscription, i.e., 10b 6d. The following new members were nominated :—Messrs L. A. Bachelor, R. C. Horton, T. J. Wallace, J. H. Gregory, Captain Syms, H. Hudson, R. Buchanan, G. W. Owen, jun., J. B. Bloomlieid, and JB. M. Seawall. Mr A. J. Bloomfield then moved in accordance with a notice of motion, and ib was carried unanimously, " That the Auckland Yacht; Club recommends the New Zealand Yachting Association to place a race for 2£-raters on the Championship programme." The notice standing in the name of Mr G. Goldie, re members whose subscriptions were in arrears, was at his request withdrawn. Ib was decided to open the season on the 9fch November, with a cruise, the destination to be fixed by the Commodore and Committee. The meeting terminated with the usual votes of thanks.

A special meeting of the Club is to be held next Tuesday evening for the consideration and adoption of the recommendations of the Special Committee appointed to examine and revise generally the rules of the tfaehb Racing Association, with a view of amalgamating same with the rules, laws and regulations of die Auckland Yacht Club. The recommendations are as follow : —That the Auckland Yacht Club take as abasia for its guidance the latest revised rules of the Yacht Racing Association, as they were found, when compared, to be more clearly defined than the New Zealand Yachting Association. Modifications are considered necessary'to meet) local requirements; it shall not be compulsory for owners to mark the " rating length " as denned in rule 3 Yacht Racing Association. On page 19 of Yacht Racing Association rules it provides for measurements o( nquaresails, etc.; the Committee advise that the Auckland Yacht Club retain section 12 of sailing rules of Auckland Yacht Club. It is desirous to bringunderthenotice of the Auckland Yacht Club rule 8 of Yacht Racing Association, also rule 2, sailing directions of Auckland Yacht Club for further consideration ; the Auckland Yacht Club's rule regarding recall aignals be adopted in place of section of rule 12, on page 28 of the Yacht Racing Association ; rule 13 of Yachb Racing Association, on page 28, be deleted ; rule 14 of Yacht Racing Association be replaced by the Auckland Yacht Club's sailing directions, rules on page 8 ; portion of rule 15 of Yacht Racing Association relating to chipping and unshipping ballast be deleted owing to the difficulty of enforcing the observance of a&me; rule 16 of Yacht Racing Association be deleted, but that all yachts should carry life belts; Auckland Yacht Ciub Sailing Committee should specify a time for finishing of race 9, because the conditions of our racing are different to ERglinh racing and our object i 3 to eet a fair test of speed ; Auckland Yacht Club reconsider the classifiction of yachts ; Auckland Yacht Club rule, section 7 on page 18, be retained in place of section 7 of Yacht Racing Association on page 42 ; the Auckland Yacht Club laws and regulations be retained intact from section 1 to 34, inclusive ; yachts be allowed only one fixed rating for any one season.
