THE COAL STRIKE.
FREE LABOURERS ATTACKED.
POLICE REPULSED,
London, October 18. A mob of minors, numbering some thousands, attacked free labourers who were ab work preventing the flooding of a colliery ab Sb. Helens, in Lancashire. Several of the latter were injured, and attempts were mado to throw others into the colliery resorvoir. The manager of tbo mine was cudgelled, and the police who came to the rescue wcro severely assaulted with stoDes and brickbats. Many of the constables were wounded, and evontuall they were compelled to beab a retreat.
