MOUNT EDEN BAPTIST SUNDAY-SCHOOL.
The celebrations in connection with the twenty-eighth anniversary of the Mount Eden Baptist Sunday-school were concludod lasb ovoning, when another yoar of successful work wus rocorded. The gathering was largo, and tea wbb very generally partaken of. Full justice was done to tho edibles provided, and the wants of those present wero carefully looked after by the following ladies : — Miasoa Lovetb, Hill, McCullough, Yoeman, Meedames Lindsay, Cox, Cowper, Taib, Freeman and Androws. The building wae completely filled ab the after mooting, which waß pretided over by the pastor, the Rev. G. D. Cox. The report of tho Secretary (Mr F. B. Stainton) was first dealt with. Ib stated that the record of the year marked the greatest undertaking in bhe history of the school. The roll number was ISS, againsb ]66 lasb year, and the average attendance 115J, beiug an increase of seven on the provious twolve months. Thore were 18 teachers, cour having left and three been admitted during the year. The increase in theechool would have beon greaterbutfor the recent measles epidemic, which had afflicted many of the children. Tho library contained 300 volumes. As the accommodation ivailablo was altogether inadequate for the growing requirements of the school, it was decided at the prior anniversary to endeavour to enlargo the building. This had been done aba cost of £95. Five new rooms had been added, which led to tho expression p" hope that the increased facilities fo? working would help towards success. Tru financial statement by Mr Prince showed the receipts to be £46 17s Id (including balance from last yea*1 of 9s 9d) and expenditure £15 Is 6d, leaving a credit balance of £1 15a 7d. During the evening appropriate addresses were given by the Chairman, tho Rev. Collins, Mr T. Garlick and ofchors. The choir also rendered several sacred selections under the conductorßbip of Mr Freeman, Miss Philson presiding very efficiently ab the orcran.
