SANTA CRUZ SURRENDERED. AN INSURGENT VICTORY. THE REBELLION SPREADING. Washington, September 19. News from Brazil states that Santa Cruz has surrendered to the insurgents, and in consequence the President. Peixoti, has abandoned his coast position Letters received from Rio declare that all ports except Santa Cruz are either neutral or favour the rebels. Three rebel warships have sailed to blockade Santos. It is expected that the President will succumb. Loyal officers murdered a newspaper editor who was a supporter of the rebels. The rebellion is spreading inland. The rebel Admiral shot his Deputy and Marine Lieutenant lor attempting to discourage the rising.
