POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.

Drunkenness,.— A first offender was mulcted in the usual penalty. — Eliza Lestrange was fined 10s, or in default 48 hours' imprisonmenb in Mount Eden.— Mary Ross, alias Mitchell, for being drunk and "disorderly in Hobson-street last night, was also fined 10s or 48 hours' imprisonment.
Laying Poison. — Wm. Ware, senior, was charged that about the 14th of July ho unlawfully laid strychnine ab the side of his house, within three chains of Portland Road, Remuera. MrS. Hesketh, for the defendant, pleaded guilty. He said that Mr Ware had been troubled by dogs worrying his fowls, and had suffered himself by getting a valuable dog poisoned. The Bench inflicted a fine of Is and 9s costs. Licensing Act.—A charge against Chas. Alex Martin, of the Rising Sun Hotel, for a breach of the Licensing Acb, 1881, by selling liquor on Sunday to persons nob being bona fide travellers or lodgers in his licensed premises, was adjourned till Wednesday next.—lnspector Hickson stated that Sergeant Bernard, the informant, had taken suddenly ill,
