CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
The usual fortnightly meeting of tbe City Schools Committee was held last evening in the Wellesley-street School, when there were pre?ent:—Meßsrs Blades (chairman), Farrell, Julian, McArthur, Fairs, Burns, Walker.
School Attendance.—The chairman reported that the attendance at the schools had increased recently. In Juno the roll showed an attendance of 3,083, which had increased last month to 3,531.
Wellesley-street Vacancy. —In accordance with a recommendation from the Committee, the secretary of tho Board wrote stating that Miss J. H. Edmiston's appointment, to fill the vacancy caused in the Wellesley-street school by the death of Miss Jerram, had been authorised.
Probation Teachers.—The secretary of the Board notified the changes that had been made among the probation pupil teachers in the city schools. Some dissatisfaction was expressed at the alterations. Nelson-strket School.—The Inspector's report was very satisfactory. He reported that 458 pupils had been presented, of whom 16 were absent, 20 excepted, 13 failed and 214 passed. Tbe percentage of passes was 467, of failures 5-7. The percentage of passes in class subjects was 75. These results were very good. The instruction, discipline, order and tone were very good.
