Christchurch, this day, A special meeting of tho Canterbury Rugby Union was held laßt evening, to con: sider a lebber frcm the Otago Rugby Union, in regard to tho annual match with North Otago and South Canterbury. The letter stated thab if the Canborbury Union thought ib would be weakened in- any way by bhe Otago Union granting North Otago permission to play South Canterbury, the Otago Union would be willing bo sband by the Canterbury Union. An agreement between the Otago and Canterbury Unions was of much moro importance ab the presenb bime than a match between North Otago and South Canterbury toams. Ib was unanimously decided thab should the Otago and Southland Unions agree to a conference of delegates, the Canterbury Union will eend ab bhe earliosb opporbuniby two delegates to meet representatives from each of the other free unions, in order to consider the position, and decide on some concerted course of action for the future. The question of forming a South Island Union was discussed, bub bbc majoriby of delegates present wore strongly against the proposal, and nothing was decided upon. Tbe question vvill bo further discussed at tho conference of delegates ab Dunedin on Saburday.
