During the last two years Brooki had been in business as a ladies' tailol in Christchurch and Wellington oi his own account, with £50 borrowet from bis wife —all the money she had. Business in both towns was a failure, ant in February last the bankrupt and his wifv loft Wellington for Auckland, leaving debts amounting to £6010s in Christchurcl and £37 13s 8d in Wellington. _ With hit wife's assets, which realiie.d £22, the passages were paid for and c business was started in Auckland. Brookes failing to get employment his wife commenced a dress-making busl ness. She kept nothing in the nature o! stock, but a "line of samples," hef customers buying their own materials, I> was understood that if Brooks conic get in sufficienb tailoring work to make it pay he was to get £2 per week from his wife. A fair living wai being made when the creditor* at Christchurch and Wellington took possession of the wife's efiects. Tht bankrupt states that she could have proveC that they were entirely her own, but it prevent further interference with bor bußl ness ho filed. Being out of work he couh make no offer.
