POLITICAL ADDRESS.
SCOBIE fccKENZIE SPEAKS,
(BY TELEGKAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Ddnedin', this day. At Naseby, Mr Scobie McKenzio, M.H.R., made a scathing attack tin the Ministerial policy. Ho said it was a downright imposture from beginning to end and for the most part wae practised on the working claaaes. They had silently abandoned the burstinjj-up policy, and in their Council appointments they chose perfectly colourless "men who had never lifted their, hand or voice for their fellow men. The Cheviot purchase, he said, called for the strictest nquiry by Parliament. The colony was staggering under theprice given for the estate, and fourfifths of it was pastoral. The purchase was made as a stimulanb to the general election. The Ministerial statements about the progress of settlement and the reduction of the public debt were similar impostures. He gave the Government credit for keeping a tighter hand over the purse than he bad expected. The colony was slowly recovering by tho steady rise of production over expenditure. Ho received an enthusiastic vote of confidence.
