Wellington, this day. During the last financial year 3,779 persons took up 1,728,983 acres of land, or an average of 458 acres each, or excluding pastoral holdings, 198 acres each. Last year 2,107,735 acres was taken, bub tho number of selectors were only 2,063. During the year 48 special settlements, half of them in the Wellington district, with a total membership of 1,741, took 342,000 acres, 518 selectors took up 48,174 acres for cash ; deferred payment holdings to extent of 40,362 were acquired by 221 persons ; 818 persona took 282,276 acres on perpetual lease ; village settlement areas amounted to 1,661 acres ; one hundred and eleven pastoral runs with an area of 853,420 wero leased ; 78 persons took small grazing runs of an aggregate area of 159,464 acres.
