AUCKLAND RACING CLUB MEETING.

Of course, the most important fixture to local turfites is that at Ellerslie, when tho curtain rises on the first day's racing of the A.R.C Autumn Meeting. The entries and acceptances for the various races compare more than favourably with last year, and the presence of tho visiting horses. Whisper, Cynisca, Free Lance, and North Atlantic, will lend additional interest to the different events. If Jupiter Pluvius is on his best behaviour I have no doubt there will be a large attendance of the public. The first race starts at half-past 12. As usual, Mr T. McEwin will provide 3uncheon both in tho Grand Stand and Derby Stand outside the paddock. My notes and anticipations of the seven events on Monday's programme are as follows : — Tradesmen's Handicap, one mile. st lb st lb Quadrant., ..9 6 Liquidation .. 7 0 Whisper ..9 0 Tulloch .. ..6 11 Ingorina '.'. .. 8 7 Ida 69 Leorina .. ..8 7 Warrior .. ..69 Dolosa .. ~ 8 0 Brigade .. .. 8 Coalscuttle ..8 0 Borneo .. ..67 This should be a pood raco, and will probably throw some light on the big event of the day. At a difference of 61b I prefer Whisper to Quadrant, and whatever beats Mr Hunter's smart mare should win. Northern Champagne Stakes, 6 furlongs. j>lr L. D. Nathan's b c St. Hippo, by St. Lcger—Hippona 8 JO Mr J. Lemiard's b f Dorothy, by The Dauphin—Bragola 8 8 Mr T. Morrin's br f Brown Alice, by Nordenfeldb—Ouida 8 8 Hon. J. D. Ormond's br g North Atlantic, by Nordenfeldt —Atlantis... 8 5 Dorothy will bo a non-starter, so that tho field will number three. North Atlantic should win, and Brown Alice and St. Hippo may finish in the order written. Easter Handicap, 1. mile. stlb st lb Cynisca .. - 8 13 The Dancer ..7 8 Whisper .. ..8 7 Master Pat .. 7 4 Pi»flre .. ..8 6 Ficsolo .. ..7 0 Leorina ... ..8 4 Free Lanco .. 7 0 Morion .. ..8 3 Yattaghan .. 6 a Dolosa 7 10 Bulrush .. ... 6 7 Coalscuttle .. 7 10 There will probably be ten starters for tho Easter Handicap, tho big event of the day. From what lean make out, Cynisca will be bhe elect of Mr Hunter's nair, and Whisper will be kept for Ihe two short events on the card. Both mares are favourably handicapped on thej? pasb form, and the selected muse have a big say in the finish. So far, Pintire, the .Auckland Cup winner, has not proved himself a weight-carrier, and report hath it thab Leorina has repeatedly had the best of him in their work. Personally, I have a great opinion of Pinfire's abilities.as a racehorse, and ir, may be that he will get homo, but if we take the strict figures and running in the Onslow Cup as a guide, Morion should beat Pinfiro, for bhe colt gave Mr Walters' horse 61b and a beating in that race. Morion has a great chance of distinguishing himself, and I think thab he will be a thorn in bhe side of the elect of Hunter's stable. Tho colt will have tho services of Gallagher. Dolosa is the- pick of the handicap, taking form as a guide. She is a most erratic mare, but Kean has her' in tho pink of condition, and it, may be that she will go bo the front and stop there. Dolosa'a chance cannot he overlooked. Which is the better of Coalscuttle and Fjesole, is a difficult problem to solve, but Harrison has probably given us a line in withdrawing Ficsole from the Tradesmen's Handicap, which she won last year with the weight she was asked to carry in Monday's contest. I don t fancy The Dancer's chance, but Master Pat may run into a place. The horsfl was never so well as he is just now, and can get the distance. Free Lance has been going to do all sorts of things during the present season, and Mr Evebb has given the colt a handicap thab should nob stop him, bub I much prefer Yatbaghan, who may effecb a surprise. The task of anticipating the actual winner is not an easy one, but the winning number ?nay be that of MR HUNTER'S ELECTED, MORION, FIESOLE. Hurdle Race, 2 miles. stlb stl h Fishmonger .. 11 9 Hune 9 5 Tnna?» .. 9 12 Rewarewa .. Ratanlan "' 9 10 Cloth of Gold .. 9 2 IkaTuka " H Forest King ~ fl&Je?" ■/. :. 9 6 Potentate .. 9 0 Report says that Rataplan has taken kindly to the jumping business, bub Fishmonger, Ika Vuka and Stepper appear to me the best treated, and to separate the trio I fancy Fishmonger. Selling Race, 6 furlongs. stlb . s p h 0 Orina -. -.8 8 Acacia .. -• ° " Brigade .. ..8 7 Mascotle .. ■■ ' ? Transit .. ..8 7 Bon Voyage ~ Vosator .. ..8 1 The Laird ..7 0 Octopus .. ..8 0 Tiger .. ..10 This event will probably be fought out between Brigade and the soiectod of the pair trained in Mr B. Thompson a stable, Vasator or Ocbopus. Eden Handicap, seven furlongs. st lb st xh Quadrant .. 9 10 St. Clemonts .. 7 \ WhisDer 9 3 Clarion .. •■ ' ' Morton* 1 " " 8 12 H«len McGregor 7 6 Ingorina .. -8 10 Viouxßpse " S Pinflrc .. ..8 8 Liquidation .. 7 2 Dolosa .. ..8 6 Tulloch .. .. 7 0 Fiesole .. ..8 0 Warrior .. .. 6 The Dancer .. 7 11 Papakura.. .. » Master Pat - 7 7 Bulrush .. ..6 7

Mr Evett s handicap for this event has secured the splendid acceptance of 18 out of the 22 entered Previous running will probably reveal the winner, bub I fancy U hisper, and thon Quadrant, Fiesole, and St. Clements in the order written. Onslow Stakes Handicap, six furlongs. Tan Tar ~§ f .. 110 lamai .. ..7 6 Dorothy 610 Glenora .. .. 7 2 The Sharper \\ 6 7 iV- ■/-. "i i■• 7 ° Pansy 6 7 King Cannibal .. 6 10 " My fancy for this juvenile race is Brown Alice, and lib and Dorothy may rill the places. '
