CHAPEL-STREET SCHOOL.

FLOWER SHOW AND SWIMMING SPORTS.

The Chapel street Public School had a flower show to-day, and alao swimming sports at; the Albort - street Baths, in both of which events the pupils evinced a great deal of interest. The flowor show was held in the schoolroom, where tboro was a very creditable display of chrysanthemums, bouquets, wreaths, etc. Last year the school flower show had only two exhibitors, but to-day there wore a much lurgar number. The exhibits included 14 chrysanthemum plants, about 20 bouquets, various wreaths, etc., all of which had been grown by tho children from plant* supplied by the headmaster, Mrßurlinson. Tho swimming sports were held at tho Albert-street Baths, and wore attended by about fifty boys. Tho races were well conbDsted, and excited keen interest amongst both competitors and spectators. Mr Caldor, caretaker of the baths, was exceedingly kind in assisting to make the event successful and enjoyable, and ho also gave a prizo for ono of the events. Mrs Calder was also very kind and voluntarily provided the boys with coffee. Prizes were contributed by Mr Skoats, Mr Holden, of Stewart Dawson and Co., and other friends. The results of the various events were as follows :—

72 Yards Handicap. — Daniol Malono (scratch), 1 ; J. Harvey (scratch), 2 ; Alex. Heading (2sec), 3. Very closo finish between Malone and Harvey. Neat Header.—Alex. Heading, 1 ; Cornelius Murphy, 2. Long Dive."—Daniel Malone, 42ft, 1 ; J. Harvey, 38ft, 2. Shoot. —Daniel JVJalono, 1 ; Alex. Hearling, 2 ; Cornelius Murphy, 3. SwiMMiso on Tim Back. — Daniel Malone, 1 ; Alox. Heading, 2. A very close finish.
