Offensive Pbivy.—Henry Hawks waa charged with allowing-j;N Uonteots otai privy on his premises in Willow-streeb to overflow. Thia was an case. Defendant had pleaded guilty to the charge, but said that it wae the con* tractor's fault, as he had refused to empty the privy.—Mr Goldie, Sanitary Inspector, deposed that he had inquired into the matter, and found that the contractor was nob in the habit of visiting the premises. The contractor refused to act, as the defendant; had not paid for previous work dono. — Edward Johnston, clerk to Mr Casey, also gave evidence.—A fino of 20a and costs wae imposed, or in default seven days'imprisonment. , " ri *i" :

Joseph . Mannex was fined 20s, or in default 7 days' imprison* ment. Two first offenders were fined 53 and costs, or 24 hours' imprisonment. —A remanded charge against John Brown was withdrawn, the man being in the Hospital.

A Rowdy Female.—Miriam Bub ten was fined 10s, or 4S hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness. She was also charged with breaking a pane of glass, value 15s, the property of Annie Simmot.— A fine of 5a and to p»y cost of the glass broken was inflicted, or in default 48 hours' imprison* ment.

Stray Cows. — Roberb Adamson was fined 20s and costs for allowing two cows to wander in New North Road. Thos. Houlihan, for permitting four cows to be at largo in Victoria Avenue and Albert Avenue, in the Mount Eden district, was fined 10s and coste.

Breach of thk Licensino Act.—William McManus, licensee of the Provincial Hotel in Shortland-street, was charged with a breach of the Licensing Act on the 7th April by not having hie name painted or fixed on the front of'his premises.—Defendant admitted the offence.—SergeantMajor Pratt said that defendant stated to him he would have pub the name up only that he was about to leave the premises. The name had now been pub up in accord* ance with the Act.—A fine of 5s and costs was imposed.

Foul Chimney.—Eliza Crawford for permitting a chimney to be on fire at her premises, corner of. Jervoie Road and Sbi Mary's Road, was fined Is, without costs. ,

Unregistered Dogs.—A number of,residente in the Mount Eden district were Bummonod for keeping unregistered doge. Miliary Jenkins arid Charlotte Ann Surroan were lined Is and costs, the defendants failing to appear. In Jbhe following cases the dog tax collector stated that the dog? had either been destroyed or registered, and asked them to be withdrawn :-r-Wm. Eggeton, Mrs Bray, Catherine Black, Thomas Jackson, E. T. Odium, Alex.' Hedley, and Thos. James.—The Bench allowed the cases to be withdrawn.

Allkged Assault.—George Evans was charged with having on the 11th April unlawfully assaulted James Masson. —Mr Baumo appeared for the defendant, and pleaded not guilty. — James Masson, the complainant, deposed that he was a carter in the employ of Mr JSchischka, grocer. Hβ had occasion to go on board the e.s. Ovalau, on Monday morning last, between 9 and 10 o'clock. Witness picked up a banana that was on the deck, and began to peel it, when the defendant ran after him and told him to "drop that banana." Ha asked the defendant if the banana, belonged to him ? when Evans hit htm on the mouth with his clenched fist. Witness then informed the police. He gave no provocation. — Edward Moore, Thos. H. Higgins, Chae. Maitland and Hecry Parker gave evidence in favour of the and Oswald Bridges and B. Mack evidence for the defendant.—The Bench considered the case proved, arid fined the defendant 20s and costs, £1 15d, or in defaulft 7 daytf imprisonment),
