The Bishop of Dunedin moved, " That this Synod has heard with regret that certain bisheps of the Anglican communion consecrated within the province of Canterbury, although not for sees within that province, have nevertheless taken the oath of canonical obedience to the Archbishop of Canterbury ; that this Synod regards such action as a contravention of the principles of the Catholic Church, and in particular requires that ehould arrangement be made for the consecration in England of a Bishop of Melanesia, that no such oath or other declaration of submission to the Archbishop be taken by the Bishop-elecb." The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment. BOARD OF MISSIONS. On the Synod resuming ab 8.30, the adiourned debate on the second reading of Bishop Neville's Bill for constituting a Board of Missions for the Ecclesiastical Province of New Zealand was taken. The Primate said, in his opinion, there was no need whatever for thie Board, and he epoko strongly against the Bill. He sincerely hoped the Synod would reject the Bill, as nob only useless bub mischievous. The second reading was negatived, as there was nob a majority of each order in favour of it as required by the rules of the Synod. The division list was as follow : — Ayea : Bishops, 3 ; clergy, 13 ; "laymen, 9. Noes : Bishops, 1; clergy, 5 ; laymen, 12.
