Wellington, this day. Thf. Synod met at three p.m. yesterday. THE ELECTION OF TKIMATE. The Select Committee appointed to coneider the Standing Commission's decision in the matter of the election of the Primacy in February, 1889, recommended certain additious bo the existing provisions, the most important suggestion boing that the General Synod shall, as occasion may require, eleeb one of the Bishops to be Primate, " and such election may be held at any time after the vacancy has occurred, or after the receipt by tho senior Bishop of resignation by the Primate of his office, whether the time fixed by such resignation has arrived or not." Tho Dean of Chriecchureh intimated his intention of bringing in a Bill in conformity with bhe report. MAORI LAY REPRESENTATION. Colonel Haulbain moved for leave to introduce a Bill providing for Maori lay represenbabion in Diocesan Synods by making additions to title B, canon 2. Leave was given, and the Bill read a first time. HIE NOMINATION OF A BISHOP. A Bill introduced by Archdeacon W. L. Williams for bhe addition of a proviso to title A, canon 1, clause 8, was read a first time. The clause defines how the standing commibbee shall decide the question of sanctioning the nomination of a bishop, and the proviso is bhab no such question shall be decided wibboub the vote of the bishop of the diocese preaenb in person. THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER. Archdeacon Harper moved, "That a select committee be apointed to consider the desirableness of a draft canon which shall provide thab no alteration shall be made by the General Synod in the Book of Common Prayer in the form and manner of making, ordaining, and consecrating bishops, priests and deacons, and in the Thirty-nine Articles of religion, except such alteration shall have been made in accordance with clause 30 of the constitution, and in pursuance of title G, canon 2; and if this seems desirable, then to prepare a draft of such canon." The motion was agreed to on the voices. BISHOP SUTER. The Bishop of Auckland moved, "That this Synod desires to place on record its sense of the great service rendered to the Chursh of New Zealand, and especially to the Diocese of Nelson, by bho late Bishop of thab diocese, the Right Roy. Andrew Burn Suter, D.D., and begs to assure Mrs Suter of its profound sympathy with her in bhe critical state of her hueband's health, which has necessitated his resignation, and that the Primate be requested to send a copy ot this resolution to Mrs Suter." Several members, in speaking to the motion, referred in kind terms to Bishop Suter, expressing great admiration for the service he had rendered the Church, and sympathy with him in his bodily affliction. The motion was carried.
