WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

This afternoon the usual business meeting of the Waitemata County Council was held in the County Chambers, Palmersfcon Buildings. There were present : Messrs R. Mackay (Chairman), Jack,Bruce, Wilson, Sharp, McLecd, Sinclair, O'Neill, and McMahon.

Wainui Road Board.—A deputation of settlers waited on the Conncil in support of a numerously-signed petition presented by the ratepayers of the Wainui road district regarding bhat locality. The petition prayed thab the Council would dissolve tho Wainui Road Board, and merge that road district into tho county of Waitemata, as one local body and one rata were behoved to be sufficient for all local purpose:-.—The Council decided to defer further consideration of bhe petition until next meeting in order to enable the othor two Road Boards in the Wainui Riding, the Pukeatua and Whanguparoa districts, to bo consulted in the meantime on the subject. Compensation eok Road. — Mr John Douelas waited on tho Council on behalf of a widow named Mrs Litton, of Waitakorci, with refrenco to compensation desired for land taken for road purposes. Ho had formerly asked for £10, but would now bo willing to accept £7.—The Council decided to pay £5 r.s compensation for tho land taken.

Statement of Funds.— The Treasurer reported that since last meeting the revenue of the Council had been £132 10s, a hard effort having been to get outsbanding rates in. He had brought the overdraft down to £367 Is 2d, but there were accounts to bo paid amounting to £261 3* sd, a larger sum than had been anticipated, which would bring it up again to £62S 4s 7d. A large number of summonses had been issued for bhe recovery of rate 5 ?. Outstanding Rates.—lt was resolved :— "That in all cases in which judgments have been obtained for overdue rate;* in the R.M. Court, tho Registrar of the Supreme Court bo instructed ro sell the properties at the expiration of the time allowed by the Rating Act." Track Wanted.—John Qaitin applied personally to have a track cut from the main road to his section in the Waikomiti district.—Referred to the engineer and bo members for the riding, with power to net.

Metal Contr/vot.—Mr E. Harrow appeared before tho Council and stated that through his inability to _et men to break metal he was unable to fulfil his contract to supply road metal for tho Takapuna district. "He asked for some consideration. —It was decided to call fresh tenders for tho 500 yards of metal required, and to release Mr Harrow from his contraeb on condition that he forfeited his deposit, £12.

Waitakerei West Road.—With reference to a request made by Messrs Dilworth, Speight and Barber to have metal pub on the formed road loading to the main road ab Waitauerei West, ib was decided to decline to do the metalling asked for.

Bridge Wanted. — The Engineer reported that Iho small bridge asked for by Mr Wakelin to give access to his property at Waitakerei would cost £15, and only benefit one settler.— Ib was decided to defer considerabioii of the request for the present.

Deferred. — Several applications for roads and bridges in various parts of the County were deferred until nexb meeting. Waipakeira.—Mr G. Ooulto., a settler ab Waipareira, asked bhab a road bo made so as to giv! him access bo his property, through a strip of Bank of New Zealand land which could be dedicated to the Council for road purposeo. - It was decided to authorise the county engineor (Mr Wilson) to nurvey tho road desired.
