the election of pjbimate.
On the motion of the Dean of Christchurch, a Select Committee, consisting of the Bishops of Auckland and Dunedin, the Dean of Waiapu, Archdeacons L. Williams and Fancourt, Messrs Cobberill, Pitt, Beebham, Hunber, Brown, and bhe mover, was sec up to take inbo consideration the decision given by the Standing Commission in the month of December, 1889, with reference to tho election to tho office of Primate, to report what alterations appear to be required in consequence of thab decision, nob excepting title C, Canon 4.
religious education of the young
The Dean of Waiapu moved for the ap poinbmenb of a Selecb Committee to examine into and report upon the various means that are being adopted in the several dioceses of this ecclesiastical province, for the purpose of advancing the religious education of bhe young. In doing so he said thab the church was drifting wofully, as far as the education of the young was concerned, and he did nob think he was making an exaggerated statement in saying that a shocking state of spiritual destitution was opening up amongst us. If the people of the Church would only put their shoulders to the wheel in the way the members of the Roman Catholic body had done in regard to the establishment of separate schools, it would bo a good thing for the Church. Ho contended that the granting of aid to these schools would not have the effect of breaking up the present education system; on the contrary, it would relieve it. Mr Field seconded the motion, which was carried. WOMAN PARISHIONERS.
Tho Bishop of Waiapu moved forloave to bring in a Bill to amend Titlo B, Canon 5, clause 10, in such a manner that women, as well as men, shall be permitted to vote at parish meetings. Sir John Hall moved the adjournment of tbe debate, which was agreed to.

John Richardson Solwyn of his office as Missionary Bishop ot Melanesian Islands, and its earnest purpose to carry on with greater zeal the work of the Mission, which he so greatly loved." As the wording of the resolution did not meet with tho unanimous approval of tho Synod, the Dean of Waiapu obtained leave to withdraw it, and brings it up in amended form to-morrow.

The Bishop of Dunedin gave notico t° move, "That this Synod has hoard with regret that certain Bishops of the Anglican Communion consecrated within tho province of Canterbury, England, although nob for scos witiiin thab province, have nevertheless taken an oath of canonical obedience to the Archbishop of Canterbury, and that this Synod regards such action as a contravention of tho principles of the Catholic Church, and in particular requires that should arrangements be made for consecration in England of a Bishop of. Melanesia, no such oath or other declaration of submission to the Archbishop be taken by tho Bidiop-elocto." '
