A LITTLE GIRL HAS HER EYEBALL CUT.OJPENf.
! An , accident of n most distressing character happened yesterday fco a lifctle girl of 6years, daughter of Mr Dai'id White, of GrarminfitlVot, oft Vinr.oria-srreefr. She was playing with a piece of looking-glass, reflecting tiie sun's rays", when suddenly s!io tripped over something: and feJl, and tlio. piece of glass being jerked upwards, penetratod the lower and outer part of the eye, making a wound over a half-inch in length, right into the globe and cornea of the eye. The iris escaped through tiie wound, and so also did the watery fluid and a goorf portion of the jelly substance of the globe. Mrs White was advised io have the eyeball, removed, but Dr. Wilkins, to whom tbe little one was taken, undercook to try and save tho eye. Placing the child under chloroform, he t etitched up t/he globe with line gold wire and brought the lids oogether and stitched them co as tc make n splint tor tbti larerateci eyeball. both eyes were padded and bandaged, and the little one sent home. Dr. Wilkins fully expects to save the oye, successful results having been Eecured in other equally bad cases.
